In case you’re wondering why the Jim Franks photos dried up, the reason is because we’re moving house. There won’t be any for a while after we move either, because I won’t be printing on the bathroom floor any more: I’ll be converting this tiny 85x155cm toilet room into a bona fide permanent darkroom. I saw it on the estate agent’s floor plan and thought “what a pointless toilet” (it’s right next to the bathroom, which has a toilet of its own) and apparently the current owners thought so too as they don’t seem to be using it! Anyway, my plan is to remove the toilet itself and fit deep shelves at the back of the room: one for the enlarger, one or two below for trays and maybe a print washer (if one fits and I can hijack the plumbing) and maybe one up by the ceiling to put paper boxes on. I’m going to strip the wallpaper and paint the walls and the shelves really well to keep the dust down. Who knows how long this will take, but I’m pretty excited!

I just tried to print the swan of the apocalypse but gave up after an hour and a half without even managing to figure out a basic contrast and exposure to start from. I need to find myself someone who knows this shit to look at my prints with their actual eyes and point me in the right direction. I’ve so many negatives I’ve no idea how to print :(
